The Delhi High Court has designated fifty-five lawyers as Senior Advocates.
Those conferred senior designation include Satvik Varma, Saurabh Kirpal, Nitya Ramakrishnan, Malvika Trivedi, Trideep Pais, Sanjoy Ghose, Rajshekhar Rao, Jayant Mehta, Chinmoy Sharma, Ramesh Singh, Viraj Datar, Percival Billimoria, Pramod Kumar Dubey and Siddharth Aggarwal, among others.
The applications for Senior Designation were called in early 2019 pursuant to the newly notified High Court of Delhi Designation of Senior Advocate Rules, 2018.
Thereafter, a petition was filed challenging Rule 7 of the Senior Designation Rules insofar as it called for a joint proposal by three Seniors to recommend a lawyer for designation.
On May 15, 2019, the High Court stayed the operation of this Rule. A Division Bench of then Chief Justice Rajendra Menon and Justice Anup J Bhambhani had thus allowed advocates to directly apply to the Committee for designation as Senior Advocates.
Subsequently, the Committee for Designation of Senior Advocates under the aegis of Chief Justice DN Patel was notified to take the process further.
