The Delhi High Court on Tuesday issued notice in a petition filed by an 84-year-old woman seeking a policy on door-door COVID-19 vaccination for senior citizens and bed-ridden patients [Dhiraj Aggarwal v. Union of India]..A Division Bench of Chief Justice DN Patel and Justice Jyoti Singh sought responses from the Central and Delhi governments in the petition..The PIL also seeks directions to introduce a helpline for registration for the COVID-19 vaccine.The matter will be heard next on September 16..The 84-year-old lady suffers from arthritis and is yet to be vaccinated due to reasons of her infirmity.Counsel for the petitioner submitted that many senior citizens like the petitioner were unable to secure even a first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine as they do not have the proper capability or means to do so."Often, these senior citizens need to be accompanied by someone like a family member while coming to the hospital, which also exposes them to the virus," the petition reads.It is further stated that many senior citizens do not have family to help them get registered for vaccination on the CoWin portal..It was also submitted that states like Maharashtra and Jharkhand have already started taking steps towards a door-to-door vaccination policy..Advocate Vinay Kumar of Lawpretation Legal Offices appeared for the petitioner. Advocate Ayushi Bansal appeared on behalf of the government.
