The Delhi High Court on Wednesday asked various bar associations functioning in Delhi to hold a meeting with senior Delhi Police officials on the issue of strengthening security in court complexes in the national capital. .The development comes just days after a debarred lawyer shot at a woman in Delhi' Saket court..A Division Bench of Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Subramonium Prasad passed the order while hearing a suo motu Public Interest Litigation (PIL) initiated after the firing at Rohini court complex in September 2021.The Court today took note of the incident in Saket court and asked the authorities to hold consultation with the police and discuss the suggestions to beef up the security within two weeks..Advocate KC Mittal appeared for the Saket Court Bar Association and stated that they had made suggestions in the suo motu petitions and though some of the suggestions have been implemented, there are still issues which need to be addressed.Advocate Santosh Tripathi appeared for the Delhi Police and stated that it has taken steps in compliance of the Court's earlier order. He said that CCTVs are being installed and that the Delhi Police has done a "fantastic work".The Court has said that it will consider the matter again in July..On April 21, a debarred lawyer named Kameshwar Singh alias Manoj Singh fired four rounds at a woman.This was the second incident of firing reported from a court complex in Delhi in less than two years.On September 24, 2021, three people including alleged gangster Jitender Gogi were reportedly killed inside a courtroom at the Rohini court complex premises.Several petitions were then filed in the High Court on the issue. The High Court also initiated a suo motu PIL on the same and passed several directions to the police and other authorities for increasing security in court complexes.
