The Delhi High Court today refused to entertain a plea raising concerns of traffic on DND flyway due to the ongoing protests in the Shaheen Bagh area against the Citizenship Amendment Act.
The plea, which was made in form a handwritten letter written by two individuals, Tushar Sahdev and Raman Kalra, was mentioned before a Division Bench of Chief Justice DN Patel and Justice C Hari Shankar.
Several women have been protesting at Shaheen Bhag since December 14 after violence broke out in Jamia Milia Islamia University in the aftermath of anti-CAA protests.
In their written letter to the High Court, Sahdev and Kalra have stated that due to the Shaheen Bagh protest, several roads around the area are unavailable and traffic has shifted to the already cramped DND flyway.
The route from Delhi to UP, Delhi to Uttarakhand, Delhi to Noida Hospitals, Ashram, Badarpur is unavailable due to this protest, it was stated.
Consequently, lakhs of people are suffering, it is stated.
It is also added that protestors have put barricades and heavy stones on sides of the roads and are not allowing even the pedestrians to pass.
Lastly, it is claimed that the protesters have damaged the dividers and other government properties installed on the roads which is causing loss to government exchequer.
Sahdev and Kalra have thus urged that protests should be done at authorised protesting areas without damaging any sort of things.
The letter thus prayed,
"Therefore, I request you to kindly consider my points and take steps for removal of road blockage and make the passage clear and free for public."
Jamia University witnessed strong action from Delhi Police following an anti-Citizenship Amendment Act demonstrations in its campus, resulting in more than 50 students being detained at the Kalka Ji Police station and leaving several injured.
