The Supreme Court today issued notice to the Centre and the Government of Rajasthan in a PIL seeking a probe into the death of over 100 infants in Kota..The Bench of Chief Justice of India SA Bobde and Justices BR Gavai and Surya Kant issued notice to the state government of Rajasthan as well as the Centre in the petition filed by Dr KK Aggarwal and social worker B Mishra..Seeking a probe into the deaths of infants in Kota by a high powered committee under the supervision of a retired judge of the Supreme Court, the petitioners have submitted that the incident at Kota is a result of a "systemic rot".."The recent tragedy at Kota Rajasthan has reached a proportion and scales that the heart of every common man of country bleeds for those infants who have become the victim of systemic rot which has been prevailing in our health infrastructure across the country."Petition filed in Supreme Court.The petitioners have also sought directions from the Court to the authorities to ensure the availability of mandatory life saving infrastructural facilities and medical devices as well as "mandatory availability of sufficient numbers of NICU, SNCU, NBSU and PICU in every government run hospitals"..It is submitted that a "complete overhauling" of the health infrastructure of the country is required in order to protect the right to life guaranteed to the people under Article 21 of the Constitution of India..The petitioners state that the states have taken a lackadaisical approach on this subject. ."The state governments do not seem to be serious to the gravity of the pathetic situation prevailing in the health sector across the country. It is apt to say that the government hospitals have become grave yard for the poor patients."Petition filed in Supreme Court.The issue of vacancies in posts at government-run hospitals is also touched upon by the petitioners.
