The Bombay High Court on Tuesday decided to conduct COVID vaccination drive for the judges and their spouses (above the age of 45 years) at the Principal Bench of the Bombay High Court in Mumbai from April 2 to 4, 2021. .This drive will also extend to the lawyers, their spouses, the office staff of the lawyers all of whom are above the age of 45 years. .The decision was taken at a meeting of the administrative committee of the High Court convened at the request of Chief Justice Dipankar Datta to deliberate on holding court proceedings via hybrid mode in view of the recent spike in COVID-19 cases in Mumbai..The Chief Justice had indicated in the morning that the High Court is likely to take a decision on hybrid hearings by the end of this week..The Bombay Bar Association had strongly batted for hybrid hearings but the proposal was opposed by others at the meeting. Eventually no decision came to be made and the issue was deferred for decision to April 5, 2021. .However, the committee meanwhile agreed for a vaccination drive in conjunction with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) for citizens in the legal fraternity above the age of 45 years..The committee expressed hope that by April 4, over 2000-3000 of lawyers will have taken the vaccine. .Sources said that BMC would allocate a few out of the 107 vaccination centres of BMC for conducting the vaccination drive..The committee is, however, yet to decide on the vaccination for the judges of the lower judiciary though a decision on the same is also likely to be taken soon.
