A Special Bench of the Calcutta High Court will take up today a case concerning the status of Children Protection Homes amid the COVID-19 pandemic..To this end, an order passed by the Chief Justice Thottathil B Nair Radhakrishnan reads as follows,.A ‘Special Bench’ comprising the Hon’ble Justice Harish Tandon and the Hon’ble Justice Soumen Sen will function on April 8, 2020 at 1.15 P.M. through video conferencing to hear Suo Moto Writ Petition under Article 226 and 227 of the Constitution of India in connection with Contagion of Covid 19 virus in Children Protection Homes.Calcutta High Court.Various High Courts have registered suo motu cases to check on whether the interests of inmates in children's protection homes, juvenile justice homes etc. are being taken care of during the COVID-19 pandemic. .This is being done pursuant to the Supreme Court's directives issued last Friday for the prevention of the spread of the Coronavirus in child protection homes and foster homes. In this regard, the order passed by the Apex Court had also stated, "We request the JJC of all the High Courts to not only ensure due compliance of this order but they shall also regularly monitor the implementation of the directions issued hereinabove as frequently as possible and at least once a week.".Supreme Court takes suo motu cognizance of COVID-19 scare in child protection, foster homes; passes slew of directions for prevention.The Calcutta High Court is now due to hear the matter today afternoon via video conferencing. .Read the notification here:
