Chief Justice of India (CJI), SA Bobde has set the ball rolling for appointing his successor by recommending to the Central government to appoint senior-most judge Justice NV Ramana to the highest judicial post of the country. .The recommendation was made to the Union Law Ministry and a copy of the letter of recommendation was also handed over to his successor, Justice Ramana. .In this process, CJI also dismissed the complaint filed by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy against Justice Ramana in relation to the Amaravati land scam, sources said. .Justice Ramana was appointed to the Supreme Court on February 17, 2014. He is expected to take over as CJI on April 24, 2021 after the retirement of incumbent CJI, SA Bobde on April 23.Justice Ramana will have a considerably long tenure as CJI with over 16 months at the helm before he retires on August 26, 2022. In fact, it will be the longest tenure as Chief Justice of India for nearly a decade. Late Justice SH Kapadia was the last judge to have a longer tenure lasting from May 2010 to September 2012.
