The Central Government has notified the appointment of two judicial officers as additional judges of the Calcutta High Court..The newly appointed judges are:- Shampa Dutt (Paul);- Siddhartha Roy Chowdhury..While Dutt's appointment is for a period of two years, Chowdhury has been given a tenure till December 27, 2023..A notification to this effect was published on the website of Department of Law and Justice on Tuesday i.e., May 31."In exercise of the power conferred by clause (1) of Article 224 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint (i) Smt. Shampa Dutt (Paul), to be an Additional Judge of the Calcutta High Court for a period of two years with effect from the date she assumes charge of her office and (ii) Shri Siddhartha Roy Chowdhury, to be an Additional Judge of the Calcutta High Court, with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office, till 27.12.2023.".The Supreme Court collegium had reiterated its recommendation for the appointment of the two judicial officers on February 1, 2022.
