The Central government has notified the appointment of two lawyers and one judicial officer as judges of the Uttarakhand High Court..Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju tweeted the news on Thursday. The following are the three persons cleared for appointment: - Rakesh Thapliyal;- Pankaj Purohit; and- Vivek Bharti Sharma (judicial officer)The three names, along with that of advocate Subhash Upadhyay, had been recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium for elevation earlier this month.This was after the Chief Justice of the High Court of Uttarakhand had in September forwarded a proposal in this regard in consultation with his two senior-most colleagues.The Chief Minister and the Governor of the State of Uttarakhand, and the Union Department of Justice had subsequently concurred with the recommendations.As on April 1, the Uttarakahand High Court which has a sanctioned strength of 11 judges is functioning with 5 judges, a vacancy position of 6.
