The Central government Friday appointed Justice Augustine George Masih as the Chief Justice (CJ) of Rajasthan High Court. .A notification to that effect was published on the website of Law Ministry's Department of Justice.Justice Masih is the senior most puisne judge of the Punjab & Haryana High Court and was appointed judge of that Court on July 10, 2008.The vacancy in Rajasthan High Court arose consequent to the elevation of earlier Chief Justice, Justice Pankaj Mithal from the Rajasthan High Court to the Supreme Court..The Supreme Court Collegium headed by CJI DY Chandrachud had, on April 19, recommended the elevation of Justice Masih as the CJ of Rajasthan High Court. The Collegium had reasoned that the Punjab and Haryana High Court, presently has no representation among the Chief Justices of the High Courts. .Born on March 12, 1963 at Ropar, Punjab, completed his studies from Kasauli, Himachal Pradesh and and Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh.
