Central government files review petition against Supreme Court judgment striking down provisions of Benami Transactions (Prohibition) Act

The matter was mentioned on Tuesday before a bench led by Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud by Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, who also sought an open court hearing of the case.

The Central government has filed a review petition against the Supreme Court judgment that recently struck down certain provisions of the Benami Transactions (Prohibition) Amendment Act, 1988 and 2016 amendments to it [Union of India v. Ganpati Dealcom].
