Central Government clears appointment of five judicial officers as additional judges of Gujarat High Court

As on March 1, 2023, the Gujarat High Court is functioning with 24 judges against the working strength of 52, a vacancy position of 28.

The Central government on Wednesday cleared the appointment of five judicial officers as additional judges of the Gujarat High Court.

The appointed judicial officers are:

  • Susan Valentine Pinto;

  • Hasmukhbhai Dalsukhbhai Suthar;

  • Jitendra Champaklal Doshi;

  • Mangesh Rameshchandra Mengdey; and

  • Divyeshkumar Amrutlal Joshi.

A tweet to this effect was posted by Law Minister Kiren Rijiju.

The appointment was made after the Supreme Court Collegium recommended the same on March 2, 2023.

The resolution passed by the Supreme Court Collegium stated that the Gujarat High Court Collegium comprising of the then Chief Justice and two senior-most Judges unanimously made the recommendation on September 26, 2022.

Further, the Chief Minister and the Governor of the State of Gujarat had also concurred with the recommendation, the resolution stated.

As on March 1, 2023, the Gujarat High Court is functioning with 24 judges against the working strength of 52, a vacancy position of 28.
