[BREAKING] Centre clears appointments to National Company Law Tribunal, Income Tax Appellate Tribunal

The Central government has cleared appointment of judicial and technical member to the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) and the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT) few days after the Supreme Court had warned of contempt of court action against the government officers for mounting vacancies..Centre has approved the proposal for appointment of eighteen members to the NCLT - eight judicial members and ten technical members.The judicial members are:- Justice Telaprolu Rajani (Judge, Andhra Pradesh High Court)- Justice Pradeep Narhari Deshmukh (Former Bombay High Court judge)- Justice S Ramathilagam (Former Madras High Court judge)- Dharminder Singh (Presiding Officer, DRT-3 (Delhi)- Harnam Singh Thakur (Retd. Registrar General, Punjab and Haryana High Court)- P Mohan Raj (Retd. District Judge, Salem, Tamil Nadu)- Rohit Kapoor (Advocate)- Deep Chandra Joshi (District Judge)The appointment is for a period of five years or till the members attain the age of sixty-five years, whichever is earlier..In the ITAT, thirteen new appointments have been made - six judicial members and seven accountant members.Four judicial members have been cleared from un-reserved category, one from Other Backward Class (OBC) category and one from the Scheduled Caste (SC) category. Five of the accountant members are from unreserved category, one from OBC category and one from SC category. The appointment is for a period of four years or till they attain the age of sixty-seven years, whichever is earlier.The judicial members are:- Sonjoy Sharma (Advocate)- S Seethalakshmi (Advocate)- Shatin Goyal (Additional District and Sessions Judge)- Anubhav Sharma (Additional District and Sessions Judge)- TR Senthil Kumar (Advocate)- Manomohan Das (Law officer in SBI).A three-judge Bench headed by Chief Justice of India NV Ramana had on September 6, pulled up the government for its inaction in filling up vacancies in tribunals and also berated it for enacting the Tribunals Reforms Act, 2021 in violation of its judgments. The Court had said that the government is leaving the Supreme Court with no option but to initiate contempt of court action or close down tribunals."It is clear that you don't want to respect the judgments of this court. Now we have the option to stay the Tribunal Reforms Act or close down tribunals or we ourselves appoint the people or the next option is initiate contempt of courts act.
