After Allahabad High Court rebuke, UAPA accused Atiq-ur Rehman moved to AIIMS for treatment

Atiq-ur-Rehman, who was arrested with Kerala journalist Siddique Kappan last year, has been shifted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) after the Allahabad High Court pulled up the State authorities for not paying heed to his deteriorating health..Rehman, a member of the Campus Front of India, was arrested along with Kappan while they were on their way to cover the Hathras gang rape incident last year..On Tuesday, the Allahabad High Court came down heavily on State authorities and the Uttar Pradesh Police, and remarked that Rehman must be taken to AIIMS. The Court said that despite repeated orders, he was not provided with even basic medical facilities. "In spite of repeated orders dated 23.09.2021 and 12.10.2021 passed by Sessions Judge/Special Court, PMLA, Lucknow, which have been brought on record to this criminal misc. urgency and interim directions application but till date, the adequate medical facility has not been provided to the first petitioner," the order stated..In the past several months, Rehman had complained about chest pain and was suffering from a severe heart issue called aortic regurgitation, a condition in which the heart’s aortic valves do not close tightly. Pursuant to the Court's intervention, Rehman has now been admitted in AIIMS, New Delhi..Recently, while hearing an urgent application moved by Rehman's father-in-law, a Division Bench of Justices Mahesh Chandra Tripathi and Subhash Vidyarthi gave two days time to the Uttar Pradesh government to come up with an answer.
