“Can’t permit illegality:" Allahabad High Court rejects plea by live-in couple seeking protection since woman was married to another person

The Court said that while Article 21 of the Constitution of India guarantees liberty to individuals, such liberty has to be within the ambit of law which applies to them.

The Allahabad High Court on Wednesday denied protection to a live-in couple after noting that the woman was married to another person and the Court cannot, therefore, permit "illegality" (Smt. Geeta v. State of UP).
