In a significant ruling, the Allahabad High Court on Monday held that granting preference to “self-help groups” in allotment of fair price shop is unconstitutional and ultra vires the provisions of National Food Security Act and UP Panchayati Raj Act. The court said that right to food is a fundamental right and no one should die of hunger. (Haripal v. State of UP)
