The Central government has notified the appointment of fifteen members - including nine judicial members and six technical members - to the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT)..As per a notification issued on November 5 by the Union Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, the following former judges and lawyers have been appointed as judicial members:Justice (Retd) T Krishna Valli, former judge of Madras High Court Justice (Retd) Vikas Kumar Srivastav, former judge of Allahabad High Court Kuldip Kumar Kareer, former District Judge, Punjab and President, District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission Vishesh Sharma, former District Judge, Gautam Budh Nagar, Uttar Pradesh Ashok Kumar Bhardwaj, Advocate Praveen Gupta, Advocate Mahendra Khandelwal, Advocate Bidisha Banerjee, Judicial Member, Central Administrative Tribunal Sanjiv Jain, District Judge, Delhi.The following have been appointed as technical members:Prabhat Kumar Charan Singh Anu Jagmohan Singh Ashish Verma Atul Chaturvedi Madhu Sinha.The current appointment is for a period of five years or till the members attain the age of 65 years, whichever is earlier..At present, there are 16 benches of NCLT all over India.Of late, the vacancies in tribunals across the country is an issue that has been litigated before several courts. In August 2020, the Supreme Court had pulled up the Central government over delays in filling up these vacancies. The National Company Law Tribunal and Appellate Tribunal Bar Association had moved the apex court in May last year seeking the filling up of NCLT and NCLAT vacancies without delay.In September last year, the Court had said that the Centre was "emasculating tribunals by not filling vacancies".[Read Notification]
