200% customs hike for goods from Pakistan not applicable for imports prior to govt notification in wake of Pulwama attack: Supreme Court

Two days after the Pulwama terror attack, the Centre had issued a notification introducing a tariff entry by which all goods originating in or exported from Pakistan were subject to an enhanced customs duty of 200%.

The Supreme Court has held that a notification issued by the Government of India increasing the import duty of goods from Pakistan by 200 percent in the wake of the Pulwama attack last year, does not date back to the midnight of the previous day.
