Prof.(Dr.) Ashok Ramappa Patil takes over as Vice Chancellor of the National University of Study and Research in Law (NUSRL) Ranchi from Prof. (Dr.) Kesava Rao Vurrakula beginning June 10, 2023..On Saturday, the Chancellor of NUSRL Ranchi - Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court appointed Professor Patil as the Vice Chancellor of the University..Professor Patil pursued his education at Karnataka University, Dharwad. He holds a B.Sc. in Criminology & Forensic Science in 1993, completed his LL.B in 1996 and an LL.M. in Mercantile Law in 1998 with a First Rank. He later went on to complete his Ph.D. in Consumer Law under UGC Fellowship in 2006..He initially practiced at the High Court of Karnataka till 1999, post which he stepped into academia and worked as a Lecturer at KLES B.V. Bellad Law College, Belgaum, till 2007. He was elevated to Principal of the same college from 2007 to 2008. He joined National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bangalore in August 2008 as an Associate Professor and was promoted as Professor in 2011..Speaking to Bar & Bench on his appointment as Vice Chancellor at NUSRL, Ranchi, Professor Patil said, "It is a great opportunity and there is a lot of scope for improvement at the University. All the innovative initiatives I have taken at National Law School of India University, Bangalore from international journals, book publications and fundraising - I hope to implement at NUSRL, Ranchi as well.".Professor Patil who is currently teaching at NLSIU also shared that he is yet to transition to his new role as Vice Chancellor at NUSRL, and is in the process of winding up his responsibilities for the academic year as full-time faculty at NLSIU. In all probability, he is expected to take charge as NUSRL VC by the end of this month and is currently in talks with NLSIU VC Prof Sudhir Krishnaswamy regarding the same. He will be continuing his association with his parent institution, NLSIU as a visiting faculty and will be back to the University after his 5 year tenure as NUSRL VC in 2028.
