Students and faculty members of NALSAR Hyderabad on Saturday bid a fond farewell to Prof Faizan Mustafa, who served as Vice-Chancellor for ten years. .Over 300 students and faculty, as well as over 100 students and alumni who were present virtually, bid farewell to Prof Mustafa at an "open house" held on July 30..The student representatives expressed gratitude for the many initiatives Prof Mustafa had spearheaded in consultation with the students.While addressing the gathering, Prof Mustafa reminisced the time he joined NALSAR in 2012 in the midst of instability at the University. Highlighting the many accomplishments of NALSAR during his term, he spoke about the colossal investment in the last three years alone of over ₹10 crore for the library. He mentioned that for all the big purchases made by the University, the students played a crucial role in negotiating with vendors. During his term, NALSAR also witnessed direct elections for President of the Student Body Committee which had its first Dalit President as well as its first woman President..Attributing the success of the many initiatives to the faculty and students, Prof Mustafa gave special credit to Prof Amita Dhanda. Addressing the crowd present, Prof Mustafa said, “This is the decade in which NALSAR has gone way ahead of other national law schools. How a public university should behave, and what kind of university administration we should have, and how students can be involved in the administration of the university and how they should take ownership in making of the regulations is something which we have shown. From a VC-centric administration, we have made it into a student-centric administration, and this is my singular achievement."“I do not need a certificate for what I have done, the students have given me my certificate,” Prof Mustafa concluded..Speaking to Bar & Bench earlier this year while anticipating his retirement, Prof Mustafa said,"I don't consider this as retirement. I am on a permanent job and was on deputation from Aligarh Muslim University. So I go back to my parent University and there are other universities that are keen to have me.".The University released an advertisement in April 2022 calling for experienced academicians to replace Prof Mustafa as the new Vice-Chancellor.The student body of NALSAR Hyderabad earlier this year urged for the re-appointment of Prof Mustafa.
