The Rajasthan Police at Udaipur have reportedly arrested a 26-year-old law student for allegedly sending death and rape threats to journalist Rohini Singh via Twitter. .The police have tweeted that a case has been lodged against the law student for the commission of offences under Sections 506 (criminal intimidation) and 509 (insulting the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), as well as Section 67 (electronic transmission of obscene material) of the Information Technology Act. .The move comes after Rohini Singh tweeted on January 26 that she had been issued threats through replies on Twitter by the handle @KViayan, who's twitter name is displayed as Kapil Singh Viayan. .Singh had tagged the Udaipur Police as well Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot in her tweet, while urging for action in the matter. .On Saturday, the Udaipur Police announced that one Kapil Singh has been detained and is being questioned in relation to the case. .The Udaipur IGP told Hindustan Times that the accused was a second-year law student and a resident of Semari, Udhaipur, and further that he had confessed after police interrogation.."During his interrogation, the accused confessed that he had doled out a threat to the journalist in anger against her style of reporting on the ongoing farmers’ agitation at the borders of Delhi", the IGP was quoted as having said. .It is reported that the law student is associated with Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the students’ wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
