Madras High Court Chief Justice Munishwar Nath Bhandari appointed SAFEMA Appellate Tribunal chief

According to a press communique issued this evening by the Union Minister of Finance, Department of Revenue, CJ Bhandari has been appointed to the SAFEMA Tribunal for a term of four years.

Madras High Court Chief Justice (CJ) Munishwar Nath Bhandari, who is due to retire from his post on September 12 this year, has been appointed as the chairperson of the Appellate Tribunal under the Smugglers and Foreign Exchange Manipulators Act (SFEMA).

According to a press communique issued this evening by the Union Minister of Finance, Department of Revenue, CJ Bhandari has been appointed to the SAFEMA Tribunal for a term of four years.

He will be drawing a monthly remuneration of ₹2,50,000.

Earlier this week, the President of India had appointed Justice M Duraiswamy as the acting Chief Justice of the Madras High Court. Justice Duraiswamy, the senior-most judge at Madras High Court after CJ Bhandari, will perform the duties of the Chief Justice with effect from September 13 following the superannuation of CJ Bhandari.
