Centre amends land laws in Jammu & Kashmir: Indian citizens outside J&K now permitted to buy land in the Union Territory

The Government of India has notified that any Indian citizen can buy land in Jammu and Kashmir. However, there is a general bar on the transfer of agricultural land to non-agriculturists.

The Central Government has introduced amendments to enable Indian citizens outside the Union Territory to buy land in Jammu and Kashmir.

Earlier, before Articles 35A and 370 of the Constutition were repealed, only persons resident in the erstwhile State could buy land in Jammu and Kashmir.
