The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has approved Air India's proposed acquisition of the entire shareholding of AirAsia India..As per a press release issued by the CCI, “the acquisition of the entire equity share capital of AirAsia (India) Private Limited (Air Asia India) by Air India Ltd. (AIL), an indirect wholly-owned subsidiary of TSPL (Tata Sons Pvt Ltd).”.Tata Sons acquired Air India after placing a winning bid of ₹18,000 crore for the airline in October 2021. AirAsia India is a joint venture between Tata Sons and Air Asia Investment Limited (AAIL), with the former presently holding 83.67% and AAIL owning a 16.33% stake.Approval of the CCI is necessary for acquisitions beyond a certain threshold.
