He later migrated along with his family to Jammu. .He was elected to the Constituent Assembly and later won first assembly elections..He also worked with the Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah as first General Secretary of the National Conference from Jammu before he quit National Conference to form Democratic National Conference. .Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha condoled the demise of Sethi. .In a tweet this afternoon, Sinha prayed for peace to the departed soul and strength to the bereaved family. .Former J&K Chief Ministers, Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti also expressed their grief over Sethi's passing. .Former chairperson of J&K Public Service Commission, Mohammad Shafi Pundit, told Bar & Bench that Sethi belonged to the rare genre of people who believed in true secularism and was a great proponent of the preservation of multi dimensional cultural heritage of theerstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir..“I knew Sethi Sahib only from a distance and never had the privilege of meeting him in person.
