Justice N Kotiswar Singh to take over as Acting Chief Justice of Manipur

Justice Nongmeikapam Kotiswar Singh will take over as Acting Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court today, according to a Government of India notification..Justice Kotiswar Singh will take over from Chief Justice Abhilasha Kumari, who retired yesterday. The daughter of former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, Justice Kumari was elevated as Chief Justice of the High Court earlier this month, after the Centre okayed her transfer from the Gujarat High Court..Justice Singh obtained his law degree from Campus Law Centre, Delhi University in 1986..He was enrolled as an Advocate in 1986 under the Bar Council of Delhi and later on transferred to the roll of the Bar Council of Assam, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim..After a brief practice in the Supreme Court of India, he shifted his practice under the Gauhati High Court. He served as Advocate General of Manipur and was designated Senior Advocate in 2008..He was sworn in as an Additional Judge of the Gauhati High Court in 2011 and became a permanent judge in 2012. He ceased to be the Judge of the Gauhati High Court and became Judge of the new High Court of Manipur when the Manipur High Court was created in March, 2013..Justice Singh had earlier served as ACJ with effect from July of last year, pursuant to the retirement of then Chief Justice Rakesh Ranjan Prasad..Read the notification
