Kerala lawyers v. Media: CJI Thakur promises action to resolve issues

The Chief Justice of India, TS Thakur has intervened in the dispute between journalists and lawyers in Kerala. On a representation made by the Kerala Union of Working Journalists in the afternoon today, Justice Thakur has promised to look into the following:.Immediate direction to Acting Chief Justice, Kerala and SC Judge Justice Kurien Joseph to solve issuesOpening media room inside High CourtFinding a solution to the issues.Terming the events as “unfortunate”, CJI Thakur also appealed for peace and restraint..Lawyers and journalists had clashed in the premises of the Kerala High Court twice this week. The events, which began with the objection of the lawyers over an incorrect news report, soon escalated into violence with some lawyers injured in the melee..While the media has maintained that the lawyers were the ones who attacked and indulged in hooliganism, lawyers were vociferous in their assertion that media was showing only one side of the story. The media room inside the High Court was locked in the light of the incidents..Lawyers across the State also boycotted courts yesterday and today in protests against alleged media hooliganism..Update: Bar & Bench spoke to Kerala High Court Advocates Association (KHCAA) Treasurer, advocate Dhanil.
