A National Investigation Agency court (NIA court) in Kerala has convicted 6 persons and acquitted 5 others accused in the infamous 2010 hand chopping case of professor TJ Joseph. .In July 2010, Joseph, a professor of Malayalam at Newman College in Thodupuzha, was attacked by a group of men and his hand was chopped off at the wrist. This was allegedly done in response to an exam question set by the professor that was construed to be blasphemous and insulting to Prophet Mohammed. The trial was conducted in two phases. In the first phase, 13 out of 31 persons arrayed as accused were found guilty in 2015. According to a report by Malayala Manorama, the NIA court today delivered the verdict in the second phase in which 11 persons were tried. As per the report, MK Nassar, Sajil, Najeeb, MK Naushad, P P Muhammadkunju and PM Ayoob were found guilty by the NIA court.The sentence imposed on these 6 men will be pronounced tomorrow.
