Former corporate lawyer and National Law School of India University (NLSIU) alumna Nayana Motamma emerged victorious on Saturday from the Mudigere constituency in the recently concluded Karnataka assembly elections. .She defeated Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Deepak Doddaiah by a slender margin of 722 votes.As per the Election Commission of India website, Nayana captured 38% of the vote share in her seat, and got 50,843 votes as against Doddaiah's 50,121.Nayana, a Congress leader and a Dalit, is a graduate of NLSIU's 2003 batch. She earlier worked at law firm Luthra & Luthra, and has also practiced before the Karnataka High Court.She completed her LLM from the University of Pennsylvania. Motamma is the daughter of former Congress Minister C Motamma who had won from Mudigerie thrice between 1978 and 1999.
