Aditya AK and Murali Krishnan. The Supreme Court put the Justice Karnan drama to bed earlier this week, sentencing him to six months imprisonment for contempt of court..Or has it?.At the risk of causing the issue to snowball into something even more calamitous, it has now been found that the beleaguered judge might just have left the country. Karnan J is apparently buying time to file various petitions challenging the apex court order..Today, it came to light that Karnan J has filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court challenging the Constitutional validity of the Contempt of Courts Act. Advocate Mathews Nedumapara appeared on behalf of the judge today and mentioned the matter before Chief Justice JS Khehar..Nedumapara said that the Registry was not accepting the petition and no AoR was ready to file the same. Justice Khehar asked him for the vakalatnama authorising him to appear, and Nedumapara handed over the same, which was affirmed by a Notary public..Justice Khehar remarked that “he will look into it” before rising..Advocate Peter Ramesh Kumar, who had represented Karnan J through the contempt proceedings, revealed that the judge is now planning to four other petitions/applications..When asked if the judge had left the country, Kumar said,.“Maybe. I cannot say more than that. Just to prepare these petitions he needs some time. He is preparing four or five petitions and he has to sign all of them. There is a mercy petition [to the President], a suspension of sentence, interim bail and the recall application in the Supreme Court. Once that is done, he will come and surrender.”.Kumar confirmed that the recall application will be filed today in the Supreme Court. However, he was not too optimistic of the result..“I will tell you the result [of the recall application] also. They are not going to allow it unless he surrenders.”.Karnan J has reportedly left for Nepal or Bangladesh, leading the Kolkata Police on a wild goose chase. The sitting Calcutta High Court judge was scheduled to leave Chennai for Kalahasti in Andhra Pradesh. However, in a twist, the Kolkata Police found that the judge was not in Kalahasti, and that only his mobile phone made its way there..Read the petition filed for recall of the SC order:
