Kangana Ranaut has agreed to cuts to Emergency movie: CBFC to Bombay High Court

The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) on Monday informed the Bombay High Court that Kangana Ranaut, who is the co-producer and lead actress of the film Emergency, has agreed to the cuts suggested by the CBFC's Revising Committee to the movie [Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited v Central Board of Film Certification Films Division Complex].

The submission was made before a Bench of Justices BP Colabawalla and Firdosh Pooniwalla by advocate Abhinav Chandrachud, who represents the CBFC.

The Court was hearing a petition by Zee Studios, the co-producers of the film, which has sought the release of the censor certificate for the film.

This plea was filed after controversy arose over claims that the film misrepresents the Sikh community.

Last week, the CBFC submitted that the movie could be released following certain cuts suggested by the Revising Committee.

During today's hearing, Senior Advocate Sharan Jagtiani, representing Zee, informed the court that Ranaut had communicated her acceptance of the proposed cuts. However, he required instructions for confirming that these would be the only changes required.

Advocate Chandrachud confirmed that Ranaut had indeed agreed to the changes suggested by the Revising Committee and pointed out that the cuts barely amounted to one minute of the film.

"Milords, the cuts suggested don't even touch a minute of the film. It's just some words here and there," he said.

However, since Zee sought confirmation of the same, the Court adjourned the matter till October 3 to allow both parties to seek proper instructions.
