Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad has taken over as the acting Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court after the Central government cleared his appointment .Justice Prasad took over from Chief Justice BN Sarangi who retired on July 19."In exercise of the powers conferred by Article 223 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint ShriJustice Sujit Narayan Prasad, Judge of the Jharkhand High Court, to perform the duties of the office of the Chief Justice of that High Court with effect from 20.07.2024 consequent upon retirement of Shri Justice Bidyut Ranjan Sarangi, Chief Justice, Jharkhand High Court on 19.07.2024," the notification issued by Law Ministry on July 18 said..Born in 1967, Justice Prasad is currently the senior-most judge of the Jharkhand High Court. He was appointed an additional judge of the High Court in 2014.He was subsequently transferred to the Orissa High Court in 2015.He was transferred back to the Jharkhand High Court in 2018. .On July 11, the Supreme Court Collegium had recommended the transfer of Chief Justice MS Ramachandra Rao from Himachal Pradesh High Court to the Jharkhand High Court.
