The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended that present Acting Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court, Justice RS Chauhan be made the permanent Chief Justice of the High Court.

To this end, a Collegium Resolution passed on May 10 states,

Office of the Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court, which has recently been constituted as separate High Court for the State of Telangana, has been lying vacant for some time. Therefore, appointment to that office is required to be made.

Mr. Justice R.S. Chauhan is the senior-most Judge from Rajasthan High Court and at present is functioning in Telangana High Court as Acting Chief Justice. Having regard to all relevant factors, the Collegium is of the considered view that Mr. Justice R.S. Chauhan is suitable in all respects for being appointed as Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court. The Collegium resolves to recommend accordingly.”

Justice RS Chauhan had taken over as the Acting Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court in March this year, following the transfer of erstwhile Chief Justice Thottathil B Radhakrishnan to the Calcutta High Court.
