Justice MM Shrivastava will take over as acting Chief Justice of Rajasthan High Court from March 7, 2022 upon retirement of current Chief Justice of the High Court, Akil Kureshi..The Department of Justice of the Union Law Ministry notified Justice Shrivastava's appointment on Friday."In exercise of the power conferred by Article 223 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint, Shri Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava, senior-most Judge of the Rajasthan High Court, to perform the duties of the office of the Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court, with effect from March 7, 2022 consequent upon the retirement of Shri Justice Akil Abdulhamid Kureshi, Chief Justice, Rajathan High Court," the notification said.Justice Shirvastava was born in 1964 and enrolled as an advocate with the Bar Council of Madhya Pradesh in 1987. He practiced at District Court, Raigarh, High Court and was the Standing Counsel for Department of Income-tax, Muncipal Council, Raipur and Chhattisgarh State Electricity Organisations, Corporations etc.He was designated Senior Advocate in 2005 and elevated as a judge of Chhattisgarh High Court on December 10, 2009. He was transferred to Rajasthan High Court and took oath on October 18, 2021..The Rajasthan High Court has a sanctioned strength of 50 judges. It is currently functioning with 27 judges, a vacancy position of 23. Current Chief Justice Akil Kureshi's tenure and transfers have been one of the most talked about aspects of the Collegium system in recent times.
