After the controversy surrounding Justice Gogoi’s order against advocate Mrinal Kanti Mandal, the case concerning the same has now been deleted from the causelist of the Bench headed by Justice Gogoi..This development comes after Chief Justice TS Thakur had said that he will “look into the matter”..Last month, Justice Gogoi had passed an order directing the Bar Council of India and the Bar Council of Delhi to look into the conduct of an advocate who had asked Justice Gogoi to recuse from hearing a matter..The advocate in question, Mrinal Kanti Mandal, had sought the judge’s recusal on the ground that Justice Gogoi had met the members of the management of the company which was the Respondent in the case. This meeting took place when Justice Gogoi was on a family tour to Udaipur..After Justice Gogoi refused to hear the case until the Bar Councils concluded their investigations, Mandal’s lawyer mentioned the matter before the Chief Justice. What remains to be seen is if the matter is now going to be listed before another Bench or shall be heard by Justice Gogoi once the Bar Councils are done with their investigations.
