Retired Supreme Court judge, Justice Cyriac Joseph has joined the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) as a Member. He assumed office on May 27, 2013..Justice Joseph enrolled as an advocate on October 12, 1968. He was appointed as a permanent Judge of the Kerala High Court on July 6, 1994. He subsequently served as a Judge of the Delhi High Court and as the Chief Justice of the Uttarakhand and Karnataka High Courts. He was elevated as a Supreme Court Judge on July 7, 2008 and retired on January 27, 2012..Justice Joseph was earlier slated to join the Telecom Disputes Settlement Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) as it’s Chairman. Subsequently, it emerged that he would not be joining TDSAT and Justice Aftab Alam will be appointed to that post. Justice Alam, who delivered the judgment in the Novartis case in April this year, retired from the Supreme Court on April 18, 2013..Justice Joseph had also been in the news for penning down just 6 judgments in his 4 year tenure at the Supreme Court..The NHRC is currently headed by the former Chief Justice of India, Justice K.G.
