Justice CS Karnan launches Political Party to contest 2019 Lok Sabha elections

Former High Court judge, Justice CS Karnan has reportedly announced the launch of his new political party, dubbed the ‘Anti Corruption Dynamic Party‘ (ACDP)..He is reported to have told the media that the party has approached the Election Commission of India for recognition and further that the number of seats they would contest will be decided soon..Justice Karnan’s Principal Private Secretary, Anthony W Lizaro had earlier told Bar & Bench that the ACDP will be contesting from all 543 seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. According to Lizaro, Justice Karnan would contest from the Prime Minister’s constituency at Varanasi..However, Justice Karnan has reportedly denied any plans to contest the seat but he did confirm Lizaro’s claim that only women will contest on ACDP tickets..Lizaro had also said that all candidates would be allotted Rs 1 lakh each for election-related activities, at Justice Karnan’s personal expense..The party’s symbol will be inspired by Rajaraja Chola, who ruled large parts of South India in the 10th Century AD..Justice CS Karnan has the dubious distinction of being the first sitting judge in the history of India to be found guilty of Contempt of Court. The former Madras and Calcutta High Court Judge was released from a Kolkata prison on December 20, 2017, after having served a six-month prison term imposed upon him by the Supreme Court..A website launched recently, justicekarnan.com has published letters purportedly written by the judge to the authorities, claiming that attempts had been made on his life during his stint in prison.
