Senior Advocate Indira Jaising today argued against allowing junk food in the creche which is being built in the Supreme Court..The Senior Counsel made these submissions on behalf of petitioner Anindita Pujari, who had moved the Supreme Court in 2015 praying for creche facilities inside the Court..The creche is in the process of being built inside the campus, and the case is now being heard to work out the modalities for making it operational..During the hearing today before the Bench of Justices Ranjan Gogoi and R Banumathi, two suggestions emanated from the parties..The first was with regard to the necessity of maintaining a regular kitchen and the size thereof, or whether a pantry would suffice. The second was with regard to providing an alternate entry to the creche through the wicket gate from the side of the Court complex..Further, other modalities including age of children to be admitted, fees to be charged, number of employees, qualification of employees, question(s) of health care/hygiene, food, etc. were also discussed..In this context, Jaising submitted that junk food should not be allowed in the creche..“No junk food should be allowed in the creche. I am very categorical about it. We cannot allow children to get addicted to Pepsi, Coke”, Jaising submitted..Different stakeholders then agreed to discuss the various issues with the Registry officials to evolve an acceptable set of modalities that would govern the creche..The Court recorded the same in its order and adjourned the case for March 15..Read the order below.
