And that is soon to change, with the collegium recommendations for the Chief Justices of Rajasthan, Patna, Gauhati, Meghalaya and Karnataka High Courts underway..Collegium appointments seem to be have kicked into gear, with the appointment of 12 Additional Judges of the Allahabad High Court as Permanent Judges..Vivek Kumar Birla, Attau Rahman Masoodi, Ashwani Kumar Mishra, Rajan Roy, Ranjana Pandya, Vijay Lakshmi, Arvind Kumar Mishra-I, Anant Kumar, Harsh Kumar, Shashi Kant, Om Prakash-VII and Yashwant Varma JJ. have all been given permanent status..The collegium has also set some transfers in motion. PP Bhatt J. of the Jharkhand High Court has been transferred to the Gujarat High Court; Jayant Patel J., who was serving as Acting Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court has been transferred to the Karnataka High Court; and Bela Trivedi J. of the Rajasthan High Court has been transferred to the Gujarat High Court..It remains to be seen whether there will be more elevations to the higher judiciary in the coming weeks. As of last month, there were 445 vacancies across the 24 high courts. The Supreme Court will have 6 vacancies later this month, with the impending retirement of Justice MY Eqbal on February 12.
