The Central government on Thursday notified the appointment of judicial officer Mohammad Yousuf Wani as an additional judge of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. ."In exercise of the power conferred by Clause (1) of Article 224 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Shri Mohd. Yousuf Wani, to be an Additional Judge of the Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court, for a period of two years with effect from the date he assumes the charge of his office," the Union Law Ministry's Department of Justice said in the notification..Earlier, the Supreme Court Collegium had, on March 12, recommended Wani's name for elevation to the High Court an additional judge.In its resolution, the Collegium noted that Wani joined judicial service on December 9, 1997, and has been serving as a judicial officer in various capacities. "The inputs placed by the government in the file indicate that he enjoys a good personal and professional image. Nothing adverse has come to notice with regards to his integrity. The Annual Confidential Reports of the officer are consistently of a high order," the Collegium said. While making the recommendation, the Collegium had also taken note of the positive opinion given by consultee judges regarding the suitability of Wani as a judge of the High Court.[Read Notification]
