JSA boosts its Litigation and Arbitration Practice with Promod Nair from Herbert Smith

Promod Nair has joined J. Sagar Associates as a Partner with effect from October 1, 2011. He was previously working as Senior Associate with Herbert Smith’s international arbitration group in London..Promod Nair (pictured) has joined J. Sagar Associates as a Partner with effect from October 1, 2011. He was previously working as a Senior Associate with Herbert Smith’s international arbitration group in London..Promod is a graduate of the National Law School of India University (where he was the University topper) and also holds an LL.M. from the University of Cambridge (where he was awarded the Clive Parry Prize in International Law). He is a solicitor advocate with higher rights of audience in England and Wales, and is also enrolled as an advocate in India. Promod also sits as an arbitrator, and is currently arbitrating a dispute seated in Hong Kong..Speaking to Bar & Bench Promod Nair said, “I have had an excellent innings at Herbert Smith and in London over the last few years. I have been fortunate to work for States, foreign investors and a number of other clients (including many Indian companies) in international arbitrations and public international law disputes. I hope to use this experience to help build a first-class litigation and arbitration practice at JSA, and sit more often as an arbitrator. More generally, I would like to play a part (in whatever small way I can) in improving the arbitration and litigation landscape in India. With an estimated 33 million cases clogging the courts, it is absolutely essential that we make a success of arbitration in the country and find ways and means to help courts deliver justice more effectively.”.Promod will take care of the arbitration practice at JSA. He will be based out of the firm’s Bangalore office but will work across offices on arbitration matters and will also appear as a counsel before courts and arbitral tribunals..In May this year, JSA had promoted six lawyers to retained partnership from their Gurgaon, Mumbai and Bangalore offices.
