An Assam court on Monday granted bail to Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Gujarat Jignesh Mevani in connection with a complaint regarding two of his tweets on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, NDTV reported. .The MLA and Dalit rights activist had been arrested and sent to one-day judicial custody on Sunday, based on a complaint by Assam-based BJP politician Arup Dey. The Assam Police had registered a case against Jignesh Mevani for offences including conspiracy to create enmity between two communities. The Court had heard the bail plea on Sunday before reserving its order. The Kokrajhar Chief Judicial Magistrate had earlier sent the leader to three-day police remand after his arrest from Gujarat late on Wednesday, as per a report in the Economic Times. In the hearing on Sunday, the police had sought an extension of remand, alleging that Mevani was not cooperating with the police by refusing to share his phone password, the report added.
