The Jharkhand High Court will be live-streaming proceedings of virtual hearings at two of its courtrooms, starting today. .A notice issued by the Registrar-General dated December 14 states that "LIVE Streaming of the Court's Proceeding of Court No.12 and Court No. 10 on virtual dates of hearing only is going to be launched from 15.12.2021. Viewers can watch the Live Streaming by clicking the LIVE Window in the menu bar of the website of the High Cout of Jharkhand." The said link mentioned in the notice directs to the YouTube channel of the High Court. Recently, Patna High Court also started live-streaming proceedings from a Division Bench of the Court.This follows in the footsteps of the Gujarat High Court, which was the pioneer to begin live-streaming on its YouTube channel.Following which several High Courts including Orissa and Madhya Pradesh took similar decisions, in the interest of transparency and greater access.In a speech recently, Supreme Court Judge Justice AS Oka had encouraged live-streaming of proceedings to a limited extent atleast, in the interest of transparency and subject to guidelines to maintain decorum.
