Jammu & Kashmir High Court releases financial assistance to advocates, clerks in Ladakh

The High Court also sanctioned release of amounts ranging from Rs. 2.5 lakh to Rs. 4 lakh in favour of legal heirs/ wives of lawyers who passed away from COVID-19.

The Jammu & Kashmir High Court on Friday sanctioned release of financial assistance to lawyers and clerks of advocates working in various courts in the Union Territory of Ladakh.

Each advocate would get Rs. 5,500 while clerks will get Rs. 4,000 each, an order issued by the Registrar General of J&K High Court Jawad Ahmed on Friday said.

"Sanction is hereby accorded for release of Rs. 5500/- to each Advocate and Rs. 4000/- to each Munshi of the Advocates working in various courts in UT of Ladakh through concerned Principal District & Sessions Judge, out of the balance relief fund provided last year by the LG's office of UT of Ladakh on account of financial assistance to the advocates/munshis working in various courts in UT of Ladakh," the order said.

Apart from it, the Court also issued order granting financial assistance of Rs. 4 lakh each to the wives of two lawyers who passed away from COVID-19.

In this regard, Rs. 4 lakh was released in favour of Shameem Akhter, widow of advocate Late Mohammad Shakir who lost his life because of Covid-19 complications during second wave of the pandemic.

Similar amount was also granted to Tasina Bi, widow of advocate late Mohammad Issaq.

The above financial assistance was granted from the relief fund provided last year by the Lieutenant Governor of UT of J&K as financial assistance to young and not so financially well-off advocates of UT of J&K for meeting their financial hardships on account of Covid-19 pandemic.

Further, the Court also sanctioned release of Rs. 2.5 lakh each to three women whose lawyer husbands had passed away from COVID. This amount was released from the Advocates's Welfare Fund.
