The Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) High Court Bar Association has decided to suspend work in all courts in Jammu and the Central Administrative Tribunal today in protest against attack on Senior Advocate Surinder Kaur by armed man outside her house. .According to a notice issued by the Bar Association, Kaur was attacked by an armed motorcycle rider at about 9 PM on Thursday evening.."The members of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association, Jammu are informed that today at about 9 PM a motorcycle rider armed with a weapon attacked Senior advocate Ms. Surinder Kaur outside her house. Presently she is admitted in the emergency ward," the notice said.It added that Bar association has decided to suspend work in all courts as well as in the Central administrative Tribunal on August 20..The Association while condemning the incident requested the Chief Justice of Jammu & Kashmir High Court to direct the authorities to constitute a Special Investigating Team (SIT) to conduct an enquiry into the incident and arrest the culprit at the earliest. .Additional Advocate General (AAG) Aseem Sawhney told Bar & Bench that a dangerous trend of attacking lawyers has developed and such trend must be arrested.."I condemn the incident personally and also on behalf of the government lawyers of J&K," Sawhney said.Other Bar Associations including District Bar Associations at Kishtwar and Rajouri also condemned the incident. .Sources revealed that the advocate was attacked by two unknown assailants using sharp object while she was walking with her dog outside her residence..A senior police official informed Bar & Bench that investigation has been initiated by registering a first information report (FIR) for offences under Sections 307 (attempt to murder), 341 (wrongful restraint) and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of Indian Penal Code and relevant provisions of the Arms Act. A four-member Special Investigation Team has also been constituted to investigate the crime.
