The Court of Special Judge Arun Bhardwaj allowed Indrani Mukherjea‘s application seeking to be an approver in the INX Media case..In her application under Section 306 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973, Mukherjea has prayed for pardon in the case in exchange of full and true disclosure..The INX Media case pertains to the alleged irregularities in the Foreign Investment Promotion Board clearance to INX Media at the time when Chidambaram was the Finance Minister..It is the case of the CBI and the ED that the father-son Chidambaram duo received illegal gratification from INX Media owners, Peter and Indrani Mukherjea for the clearance..Mukherjea was produced before the CBI Court Special Judge (PC ACT) (CBI) Anurag Sain after being brought from Mumbai’s Byculla Jail on May 23..She is lodged in the Byculla jail for the alleged murder of her daughter Sheena Bora..It was then that the investigating Officer in the case, DSP R Parthasarthy had informed the Court that the Agency was in support of Mukherjea’s plea to be made an approver as her statement would consolidate the evidence in the case..Before Judge Sain could pronouce the order in the application, the matter was transferred to Special Judge Bhardwaj after Karti Chidambaram became a Member of Parliament..P Chidambaram’s plea seeking anticipatory bail in the case is pending before the Delhi High Court.
