In a show of strength, Tata Sons has retained former Solicitor General and Senior Advocate Harish Salve for its ongoing battle with ex-Chairman Cyrus Mistry..Salve appeared before the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) today on behalf of Tata, seeking an extension of the 10 days’ deadline granted to the Company for filing its reply to Mistry’s appeal against his ouster..A two-member Bench of the Appellate Tribunal headed by Justice SJ Mukhopadhyaya extended the deadline by four weeks and listed the matter for hearing on October 31..While admitting the appeal against Mistry’s removal from the post of Chairman of Tata Sons on August 24, NCLAT had decided to hear the matter next on September 24..The Appellate Tribunal had also directed Tata Sons to not “force” Mistry to sell his shares in the Company during the pendency of the appeal..Mistry had appealed against the order of the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT), Mumbai Bench, which dismissed his plea challenging his removal as Chairperson of Tata Group’s holding company in October 2016..So far Senior Advocates CA Sundaram, KG Raghavan and Arun Kathpalia have appeared for Mistry at the NCLAT while Senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi was appearing for Tata.
