A Special Court in Ahmedabad today convicted twenty-four persons in the Gulbarg society massacre of 2002, reports News18. Thirty-six of the sixty-six accused have been acquitted..The verdict was pronounced by Special Court judge PB Desai fourteen years after sixty-nine people in Ahmedabad’s Gulbarg Society were murdered by a mob. The victims included former Congress MP Ehsan Jafri. His wife, Zakia Jafri, told NDTV that she was “unhappy” with the verdict, and would “carry on the fight”..The case is one of the nine cases which were reinvestigated by the Supreme Court appointed Special Investigation team (SIT)..Out of the 24 who have been convicted, 11 have been convicted on charges of murder. BJP corporator Bipin Patel, police inspector KG Erda and a VHP leader are among those acquitted.
