Gujarat High Court orders State to identify cases where rape convictions are based on weak evidence

The bench led by Justice AS Supehia highlighted the fact that there are several cases, wherein convictions are premised on weak piece of evidence and despite that the convicts have to languish in prison for decades.

The Gujarat High Court Friday ordered the State government to constitute a committee to identify cases, especially rape cases, wherein the trial courts have convicted accused persons based on weak evidence which does not inspire confidence and yet the convicts continue to languish in jail [Govindbhai Velshibhai @ Virjibhai Parmar vs State of Gujarat].
